New bakers stand

I have been looking at this gorgeous wire plate rack at my sister’s shop for ages. I knew I wanted to put it somewhere in the beach house. My first thought was on the wall in the dining area but I found my fabulous clock which was just right for there. I finally decided to try it in the patio area and I LOVE it!!! First off I gave it a really good scrub as it had been around for a while (a bit like yours truly!!) then I laid it out in  the winter sun to dry.

The pool fence was a perfect drying spot!!
Next I attacked it with some spray paint. I just realised I don’t have photos of this which is probably lucky as I set up a ‘spray booth’ in the garage and started spraying away happily. What I didn’t realise was that I was so carried away with the spraying that I was changing direction and didn’t realise until I finished that I had sprayed the garage floor!!! Great fun scrubbing that late on Sunday afternoon when all I wanted to be doing was fluffing up my new shelf!! Anyway, finally I have it done. Well, nearly,…..I think I can add a little more colour to the top shelf. You will notice in some of the photos I was shifting things around and didn’t put them all back  correctly so I had to take a couple of quick shots this morning.
I think my new display shelf is just gorgeous!

I still need to find just the right things to display in the lower shelf. You can see I have tried a few different bits and pieces from around the house. Most of the cute black and white and red and white china was from Kmart for $2 per piece. What a bargain.

Getting rid of dust bunnies!!

As our long hot summer is drawing to a close I have been busy trying to get rid of some of the dust that seems to be coating everything. In fact I’m beginning to think this whole house is joined together with one big cobweb. It just makes me feel so settled to have my beautiful china sparkling clean. Cushions and curtains have been laundered and floors and windows washed in my sunroom.  One room done and lots more to start on!!

I’m planning on starting out in the garden as soon as the weather cools a little more. We had such a busy weekend…..after 13 years we will have none of our kids living in our city unit so on Friday we travelled to the city to complete some maintenance before our tenants move in. I must admit I do feel a little sad that we won’t have that as our base. We do have two of our kids we can always stay with or our beach house is only one hour away. In fact after we had the quick cleanup we stayed with our daughter and her family for a night then we drove to the beach house. We are now home at the farmhouse so that makes it 4 different beds in 4 nights!!! Talk about crazy!
Have a lovely week!!

Putting a spring in my step!

Spring is well and truly in the air here today. I love spring but I hate the hot drying winds that seem to start once we hit October and they started yesterday. Thankfully we had some rain last week for our crops. I thought the dresser in the kitchen needed to have a much lighter look so I played around with some pretty fresh green which I added to the white that was already there. A much lighter and fresher look for the warm days ahead.
This is what it looked like for winter….

And here is the new look!! I just love that gorgeous polka dot china…it comes in many different colours. Maybe I ‘need’ to pick some up in the after Christmas sales (how scary is that!!).

The soft white balls are off a shrub in the bush near our home. They were naturally just a natural brown colour so I lightly spray painted them white to soften them up a little.
Even though this isn’t really a tablescape I’m planning on joining lots of weekly parties (hope the tablescape police don’t get me!!)
I’m off to redecorate my sister’s gift shop tomorrow….should be good fun with all the new stock arriving.

Tis the season for cleaning!!

We are home at the farm house for a few days while the shearers come in and shear our sheep. This takes about 3 days for our ewes to be done so I have decided that the weather is just perfect for a bit of spring cleaning (I know it’s full summer here but at the moment we are having beautiful spring weather). This always seems to happen when the Christmas decorations are packed away. I didn’t have too many to pack up at the farm house because most of ours were at the beach house this year but the house looked like a clean slate just waiting to be rearranged.

I started with a nearly empty dresser and I felt it really needed some nice earthy bits and pieces so as usual I looked around and put together a few pieces from everywhere!

Things look a little sad here…my gorgeous big white pitchers went to the beach house for Christmas and will probably stay there now.

I really like this look for a change – DNo 2 visited and commented how much she liked it – I don’t think my daughters like my pink things much!!

A Change in the Kitchen

I've had a change - I have changed the dresser in my kitchen. I started off with my white thrifted soup tureen (which you can read about here) and then gathered up all the white china I could find in the house.

I lived with that for a few days but it really looked a bit 'nothing'. I'm sure you know what I mean.

I'm still going to paint and distress the dresser but as yet haven't found the time!! I'm going to see if those gorgeous chalk paints are available here in Australia yet. The colours I have seen in them are just beautiful.

The bright green apples just seem to make everything pop. They were for an apple crumble which you can see hasn't been baked yet!

I love the texture of these gorgeous woven balls.

White tulips - I have seen so many of these around blogland I just had to have some...

Daughter No 1 thought the change was so much better - much more modern she said!!!  I think that means I passed!

I hope you like my changes as much as I do!! I am reposting an earlier post about my dresser so you can see the difference. (Also cos I've just learnt how to repost - thanks girls!!).

A few years ago when my Dad died he left me some money - not a lot but money he had worked hard for and had saved so I decided I would buy myself something really nice to keep in his memory. I thought for quite a while before I decided on a Royal Albert dinner set in Old Country Roses design. Over the years I have been lucky enough to receive lots of accessories to match. I thought I would share it with you for this week's teascapes.

This tall glass is actually a candle that matches the colour of the roses perfectly.

I love cups all stacked up like this - especially when they are this pretty!!

The chintz plates are really my all time favourite - if I could have a complete dinner set like this I would be in heaven!

I have matching placemats and coasters in two different sizes - it is amazing how many accessories there are too match.

Even a guest book - please take the time to leave me a message. lol

More cups piled high.

No table would be complete without the matching salt and pepper shakers, sugar bowl and creamer. We received this beautiful sugar spoon as a wedding present - it has a beautiful rose on the end.

Platters in all shapes and sizes...

Even a pretty little cake stand - once again I have been baking (not)!!

How stunning is this chintz?? I love this in any colour - not that I have any others but I have seen lots in antique shops. On my wish list.....

This china is also Royal Albert Old Country Roses but in a more country style - not quite as dainty as the other.

I had intentions of painting this old dresser before I showed any photos but as usual time just gets away. I still intend painting it so I will keep you posted and show it to you once it is finished
