Fluffing and cleaning

I had the day at home today. Don’t you love that??? I do…I don’t have many days to just fiddle around and change a few things. First up though was some serious cleaning. You know….bathroom, toilet and laundry rooms. Once they were finished I was able to set some pretty bits and pieces on an old cupboard I have in my sunroom. I find living between two houses really is a little difficult finding time to do all the fun things in the house.

I’m in a bit of shock tonight. My brother-in-law has been burnt lighting the fire in their home tonight. He has nasty hand, arm and face burns and there has been some damage to their home. It really just tells us all to be so careful doing the everyday things. He might need to be transferred to the large burns unit in the city in the morning so we are all keeping our fingers crossed he will be ok.
Tomorrow I am back at work then off to the city for a dental appointment, a game of football (not me!! hah), and some special time with our grandies. I can’t wait.

Moss bunnies

We headed to the beach house for another weekend…..fairly cool but with lovely winter sunshine. Our daughter and her two gorgeous little boys came to stay for two nights (her husband was interstate on business) so that made the weekend even more enjoyable. I was doing a little dusting and fluffing before they arrived and decided to use my cute little moss  bunnies I had bought for Easter in a woodsy winter look. The little boys just loved the bunnies and were so sure they would be filled with chocolate!!!  What a disappointment!

I’m really loving the natural elements for decorating for winter and I’m really, really loving my gigantic clock I bought during the summer holidays. It certainly has a presence and everyone who visits seem to love it. You can see the full size of it here.
I’ve have been trying hard to stay warm all day!!

Winter White Mantel

I thought it was high time to revamp my mantel (well, actually it’s the top of the tv cabinet but I decorate it as I would a mantel!!). I decided I would have it just silver and white but in the end I added a really old planter I had hidden away. It has some pretty blue flowers on it and I felt the whole look needed just a little colour. I already had some of the silver candlesticks up there so I just added a couple more. I ‘borrowed’ the lamp from the guest bedroom and the silver sticks in the jug are leftovers from  our daughters wedding which I sprayed silver long ago!!
I love the light from the lamp on the dull winter days. Actually today has been beautiful…….showers over night and sunshine during the day. Perfect!

The candle sticks were throwing some weird shadows on the walls late this afternoon! I have been to the beach house over the weekend and have been making a few little changes which I will share  when I have finished them next week.
Happy Monday!!

Cancer Foundation Fundraising

Last Thursday we held our annual fundraising afternoon tea for the Cancer Foundation. We have held this fundraising for the last few years at our primary school. It is such a lot of work for the staff but so worth it. We have a tiny school with just 7 students and the same amount of staff (I know, it doesn’t make sense!!) so it really is a very important day to us. This last 6 months we have had 5 ladies in our extended community who have been diagnosed with breast cancer – that is a fairly high rate given the amount of people in our communities.
Each year I pack up a lot of my pretty china and take in to use for the day. All the staff cook the afternoon tea, we all hep with the decorations and the students take the orders for the drinks and serve the food. A great day to be part of.

We had an amazing collection of prises for the raffle – all donated by staff, family and local businesses.

Winter is not far off here – we have had a couple of very cold days and nights. Time to light the fire and get rugged up. I can’t wait.
