It's red..and it's pink..and it's orange!

I recently bought myself this lovely bunch of red roses (I had been to the dentist and always feel I need a little treat after going there!!) so naturally they lead to a tablescape.
A few weeks ago I had bought this placemat/napkin set from the supermarket and loved the fun colour combination of red, pink and orange. You will see the mats are double sided - one side is covered in lovely autumn toned leaves and the other has pretty stripes. I wish I had my cute orange flatware when I set this table but that was a later purchase.

Happy tablescaping to you all!

Tea tray for two

I just had to make a quick tablescape using my 'beautiful' new cutlery which you can read about here. I had been given this pretty plate for my birthday a few years ago and had found it to be a bit bright for my decor but now I have spread my wings a bit and am willing to try lots of different colours it just seemed perfect today.

The gorgeous yellows and oranges of the poppies were perfect with my orange cutlery and yellow sideplates. Green rafia held the cutlery in place.

This photo makes me think of a bunch of fresh carrots!!!

I have been taking a lot of my photos out on my front porch lately. It's winter here in Australia so the light in my kitchen is not so great so whenever we have a little bit of winter sunshine I head outdoors.

This tray is set up for a simple little morning tea for two.

If I'd been told a few years ago I would be decorating with oranges, yellows and greens I would never have believed it. My mind now is open to so many new ideas.

Super cheap Tuesday

I picked up some cute little cutlery sets on the weekend.  I thought they would be perfect for some tablescapes. You see, they were such a bargain I thought I would not be able to use them to cut anything but fresh air but I was pleasantly surprised. Mind you, I haven't tried them with a big steak off the barbeque yet!

Did you see the price???  99c for 4 pieces that means a setting for four for $4!!! Now you know why I thought they wouldn't cut anything. 4 knives, 4 forks, 4 dessert spoons and 4 teaspoons for $4!  I purchased the olive green one first (they do look a little brown in the photo but they are a pretty green) and while I was paying for them I shot back and picked up the orange. If there had been any other colours I would have bought them too!!  Not bad for $8!!

                                       Have a lovely day,

Wire Cloche

Today I have been trying to upload photos for Marty's Cloche Party and boy, have I had problems...I just haven't been able to get my photos to work. How come this always happens when you are in a hurry???
We have just purchased a lovely dining suite and buffet for the beach house (for 12 months I have had a fold up table!!! LOL) so I am super excited. As soon as we unpacked the boxes I literally just grabbed a few bits and pieces I had on display around the house.  I bought this large wire cloche from my sister's gift shop (thank goodness for mates rates!!) and just love it sitting on the buffet. The candles are not quite right but they will do for today.

We have timber blinds throughout the house and I love the way the sun shines through. It is certainly getting harder to come back to the farmhouse now we are getting things looking so nice.

This is the bedroom that  DNo2 and her husband use when they come to visit. I originally wanted just cream and white in here but it really looked a bit flat so I found this canvas with chocolate brown and pink on it so I have introduced those colours. Now I really love it.

The other spare bedroom is the one SNo 1 uses when he visits. The room already had the navy feature wall (something I would not paint) so I just worked with that. I also wanted it to be a little more masculine. Once again I found some canvases which really set the scene for this 'man's room'.

Daughter No1 has the other spare room - the lovely bronze and navy quilt cover was the start of her room. Once again we had a navy feature wall to work with.

Overall I'm really happy with the way things are looking. This house is so different to the farm house where shabby painted furniture fits in really well.

Rustic Charm

A couple of months ago one of my dearest friends held a celebration dinner for her husband’s 60th birthday. It was held at their farm on a lovely balmy night. Drinks and nibbles were served in the garden and the 60 guests were then called in for dinner. The family had transformed their double garage into a wonderful dining room. There were 3 long tables all decked out in crisp white cloths and chair covers to match. Silver, black and white balloons floated above on the ceiling. The candle holder were really a work of art – their daughters had scoured the old junk heaps on the farm and found many interesting pieces off old machinery which they used as candle holders. The parts were very rusty so they had them sand blasted then sealed to protect them which helped to show off the gorgeous black and grey finishes. My friend and her family provided and served a beautiful 3 course meal.

Entree was a selection of three dishes - grilled pumpkin and haloumi salad, fresh dates wrapped in proscuitto and yabbies (similar to prawns - we have these in our dams) served in a yummy seafood sauce on avocado.

Main course was a choice of their own lamb stuffed with three different seasonings - yummy!! Lovely roasted vegetables and delicious salads accompanied this. (This course was on the buffet so that's why the presentation doesn't look so good!!)

Dessert was birthday cake, Black Forest cheesecake and strawberries soaked in Grand Marnier. Delicious!!!

This was such a fabulous night!!

I've got spots!!!

Yes, I have got spots. Not dainty little white ones on a soft background but big round ones on a creamy background. You see, I have been looking for spots for some time and I have finally found myself some. They are not quite what I had in mind but for the time being I am happy with them. I think Brenda @ Cozy Little House started me looking for spots. You should see hers!!!

Today I have teamed my spots with brown and yellow china - hope you like it.

Last week we had the most wonderful warm winter days but things have changed a lot since then...it is freezing today.
