Orange Squash

We have had some really hot weather here lately – just as summer is winding down. Actually last Thursday’s weather was described as catastrophic!! And that was spot on…it was terrible. So I decided I needed a new refreshing table to cool things down (it worked, it’s actually raining today!!lol). I have been back at my sister’s gift shop doing a bit of re-arranging and displaying new giftware (my favourite job!!) so I thought I would share with you a lovely sunny orange tablescape I put together. As this was the display for the window I found it a bit hard controlling the light but I think you’ll get the idea.

Most of the orange tableware is melamine picnic ware but I have teamed it with some lovely white china bowls. I just love the fact that mixing things up like that is so acceptable these days – who would have thought of doing this about 5 years ago?? Not me for sure. I had to have a complete set of everything!
Aren’t these bird cages just fabulous…….

Pearls and Roses

Are you a pearls and roses kinda girl???  I love pearls and wear them whenever I can.  I  have actually been known to wear three strings at once.  All different sizes and lengths. I particularly love my big chunky ones that my girlfriend gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago.
Today I was cleaning my bedroom so I changed things out a bit – I love having a nice clean house.

I’ve just realised how well my friends know me….this gorgeous lady who holds my pearls was also given to me by the same girlfriend!!

Have you noticed my new blog header??? Barbara from Grits and Glamour had a giveaway and I won! I was so thrilled to win the chance of having a header designed by someone as talented as Barb. We have had a few challenges along the way. Poor Barb kept re-doing the header and by the time I went to upload it here in Australia it had somehow resized itself and couldn’t be read. After many emails and a lot of work from Barb we have it up and running.

Thank you so much, Barb,

Red is for Valentine….

And also for Birthday!!!  It was my birthday last Thursday and as I had to work Mr FH and I set off for the beach house on Friday morning. First off we met my mother, sister and girlfriend for coffee then when we arrived at the beach house  both our daughters (along with 4 grandies!!) had arrived to help celebrate.  They had arrived with all the ingredients to cook a birthday dinner for me. My job was to set the table for dinner. LOL. I dived into the cupboard and pulled out the red placemats and candles. Next on the list were the black candle sticks.

Very simple but just fine for the four of us! Once we had the four kids tucked up in bed the girls started cooking……. I love Indian food so they cooked Butter Chicken, Rogan Josh, Rice, Papadams,  Mango Chutney and Garlic Naan Bread. Just delicious!!

We had a yummy Baked Cheesecake with a macaroon topping for dessert but I forgot to take photos after we had shared 2 bottles of Verve champagne! It was a wonderful night and a great weekend to follow when the husbands arrived and also our son and his partner. Just gorgeous family time.

Valentine Day

This week I’m cheating a little…..this is a post I did a long time ago when I first started blogging. Life just seems to be taking over my blogging Laughing out loud! I really think I’m spending too much time at the beach house but last weekend we enjoyed the most beautiful weather there so it’s so hard to stay at the farm house for the weekend………..
Finally, our weather has cooled off enough for me to get outside and set a table... I thought I would do this little table suitable for a Valentine's Day breakfast with Mr FH.  I shifted lugged my table and chairs off the front porch (in Australia we call it a verandah but I think porch is so much more romantic..) and set them up under a tree in the shade. Then I gathered up lots of vintage bits and pieces I had put away just for a table like this and packed it all up in a picnic hamper..
I love the soft creamy white colours of the old china and the cute bowls I added for fruit.
How beautiful are these wonderful old salt and peper shakers? When I found them they were so dirty I have had to scrub them clean - I haven't used silver cleaner as I really love them the way they are.
Life on the farm looks pretty good here - it's hard to believe we had the most amazing storm yesterday...
I found a box of vintage cutlery but sadly most of the bone handles have all broken so I will be on the look out for some replacements.
I will be joining Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch for her lovely Tablescape Thursday to see all the wonderful tables this week.
