New Header

Haha!! I’ve got a nasty cold today so I’ve just been playing around on my computer and made a new header. Barb@TheEverydayHome gave a great tutorial on how to make one on Ribbet – so much fun!!! I had won a giveaway with Barb a while back and she had made my last header so now I made my own!!!

Sunny winter afternoon

We are still having some cool nights and recently when I was too lazy to set the fire and feeling cold I grabbed a shaggy quilt I had made a few years ago. Isn’t it funny how sometimes we look at things differently….I suddenly saw this quilt as a table cloth!!  I love the gorgeous earthy colours so I thought it would be perfect for an outdoor tablescape.  I didn’t need a lot of other colour so I chose to use mocha colour tableware and napkins. Cream flatware and a wooden trug full of matching cups and saucers finished off the table.  Such nice weather…we are screaming (yes, literally, screaming!) out for rain but it just doesn’t seem to come. We are preparing a lot of our sheep ready to sell as we don’t have any feed for them for the summer so things are going to get a little busy.  Lucky we are able to drift of to blogland for a bit of inspiration!!

Cottesloe Beach

This weekend after doing three days of sheep work on the farm, Mr FH and I decided on a quick trip to the beach house. We hadn’t been down for three weeks so were feeling as though we needed a break away. The major job this week was to tidy and mulch the garden. We are so pleased with what we achieved and how tidy it looks after the winter. I also happened to find two gorgeous cushions to  use on my adirondak chairs. In the summer the chairs are out by the pool but for the winter they are still under cover in the patio. These cushions show the famous beaches here in Australia. Ours in Western Australia are Cottesloe beach (in the city) and also Cable beach which is at Broome in our northern part of the state. I have been to Cottesloe many times but not for a while now (too many gorgeous young girls down there in bikinis for me!!). It also has a famous pub across the road from the beach, called the Ocean Beach Hotel, which is a favourite hangout for the young ones. I think I’ll be happy sitting by my pool with my gorgeous cushions as this year we have had a few fatalities on our beaches from shark attacks. Good enough reason for me to stay by the pool.

It looks like I need to get the ladder and straighten some of my paper lanterns up after the winter winds!

As you can see, we did get the garden mulched but ran out of time to clean the pool!!

Gorgeous Ikea plates

As soon as I saw the gorgeous table set with doilies a couple of weeks ago I knew I had to try it. (Please if anyone knows who did this first just let me know and I will add that to my post). I have a lot of doilies from my mum, my MIL and my grandmother so I gathered up all the white ones I could find and set them out. I had bought these lovely pink and green plates (Ikea) a while back when I was ‘just looking’ and knew they would be lovely with the centrepiece. I decided the plates were so fine that I wanted to pair them with silver and white and nothing else. I tried many different napkins but they all looked too bulky (white sheer ones would have been perfect but I didn’t have any!!) so I ended up using paper napkins. Mind you, I did have to clean a bit of silver before I could start the table! Most of the crystal is vintage too, from various family members and the lovely candelabra was a gift from DNo 2.

I thought it would be great to serve dessert in the crystal glasses – just perfect to a lovely springtime lunch.

PS. Marlis@CreativeJourney did a table similar to this a couple of weeks ago but she found it on Pinterest.

Tea for two!

This morning I was doing a little housework (sometimes it just has to be done!) and the sun was shining through the window into the sunroom. Such a beautiful morning, if we didn’t desperately need rain! Nothing I can do about that, I keep telling myself so back to the cleaning. I was washing this lovely tray my friend had given me for a birthday a couple of years ago and I thought it was just so pretty that it need some equally pretty cups and teapot to go with it. Instantly a tablescape was in the making!

I adore pink and green china……..not sure just what I’m going to do with all this when we retire to the beachhouse as that is just not a pink house at all. Maybe a giant garage sale! Haha

Lots of gift shop tables

Not much happening around the farmhouse this week.  Just lots of sheep  work, lots of raking and burning ready for summer and lots of house work! I did manage to slip in an afternoon nap on Sunday when we were receiving some much needed rain but nothing in the tablescaping department! I do have some more photos from the gift shop to share with you and hope to have the ideas running around in my head placed on the table before next week!!

As soon as I saw these gorgeous pumpkins I knew they were screaming ‘fall’ to me (not that we call it that here in Australia!). I had this old box I had stencilled many years ago so decided to use it with some smelly old hay and make a feature of the glorious colours.
Enjoy,

White Wednesday

Did someone say ‘White Wednesday’??? This is what greeted me this morning before I left for work…I was feeling really cold about 6am and when I finally crept out of bed this is what it looked like outside. I’m not really a morning person and I’m especially not on a morning like this!!!
