Salt Lakes in Australia

Last Friday Mr FH and I decided to take a drive. We had heard that the farmers east of us were far worse off than us with the drought so we thought we'd take a look.  The town is surround by salt lakes which at this time of the year are usually filled with water.

As you can see there isn't much water this year. Some of the crops were ruined but there were others which were still hanging on and quite good -ours are about in the middle of that!!

This really shows the harsh Australian landscape at it's best. By the end of summer the wind will have blown all this precious soil away. We ended up driving over 200km!

Tomorrow I'm working for my sister in her gift shop -that will be a fun day as she has had some Christmas stock arrive.

I loved seeing the pics of the landscape there Susie!
It's so different than around here and it does look harsh out there. Sorry about the drought hope things improve.
Hugs,
Cindy

Hi Suzy, your photos are so interesting. I want to visit there someday. The salt lakes are definitely dry looking. How different it is from the green lush mountains of North Carolina in the US. Thanks you for sharing your corner of the world. I will pray for rain in your country.
Hugs, Jeanne

I loved your post today, even without a lot of rain. I love your country and would like to come back one day. So many interesting things there.

How interesting -I'll have to show this to my husband -he's a farmer. Very sad for them over there!

This is certainly different than most pics I have seen of Australia. Loved the scenery. So unique.

Rain is so important and those that get it on a regular basis take it for granted...we live in a constant drought here...California is a very dry state...and we try and manage our water the best we can. Although the area you showed is in a drought there is still so much beauty to be seen. Thanks for sharing!
