Diamonds in the Dust

I am just so proud of my daughter. Let me start at the beginning. D No 2 rang me about eight weeks ago to ask if I could help her with a ‘ladies night’ she was planning. She had come up with the idea of holding a dinner for the ladies of the district. You see, there has been a lot of funding available for ‘men’s health’ functions as the farming communities  of Australia battle with greater outputs than inputs, putting a huge amount of pressure on farming families.Depression and suicide sadly are very real and common within the farming communities. My daughter thought that the women supporting the farmers needed some TLC. She managed to obtain funding from the onelife foundation which covered a guest speaker and some entertainment for the night. Each woman paid$50 for the night and this included a wonderful 3 course meal and a chance to win two beautiful diamonds. Her theme for the night was ‘Diamonds in the Dust’. As you can imagine, I charged in flat out. I made a chalkboard (thanks to Dear Lillie for the tutorial)  and  had this displayed behind the guest speaker. We had an absolute ball discussing decorating ideas and the whole night was a wonderful success. She was hoping to have about 40-50 ladies and we ended up with 115 and had to turn down another 16 as we were full. Not a bad effort for just a few weeks work. We went with the silver and white theme for the Diamonds and we even had red carpet for the ladies to walk along when they entered. (Sorry no photo of that!). We had 15 tables to decorate so they were all slightly different but all with the silver/white theme. I have a bit of photo overload so I hope you don’t mind.

We are already thinking of new ideas for next year if we are able to obtain some funding – maybe a long table luncheon!! What a wonderful daughter I have!!

Diamonds are a girls best friend!

IMG_3535a
Yes, we have an engagement in the family!!! Son No 1 (actually the one and only!!) has finally proposed to his long time girlfriend and we are all very excited. No, this is not her engagement ring!! I was just setting a simple table for two in our living room when I came across these napkin rings so just for the fun of it I used these today. I have been doing a bit of revamping in our living room over the last couple of weeks but I am not finished yet so can’t give you a full tour so thought I would just give you a peek! You know the type of redecorating exercise where you don’t want to paint, can’t afford new furniture ( actually anything new!!) but you want a new look. Well, that’s what I wanted for the start of summer. It’s looking quite nice at this stage so I’ll share it with you shortly.

We have also bought a house with our son which they will be moving into in February. It is a cute little cottage which we have big plans for so I will share the journey when we start that. Exciting times around here if it wasn’t for the down turn in agriculture!!

Happy New Year!

A Happy New Year to you all!!

This is a picture of my sister's townhouse where we celebrated Christmas -as you can see it was just so hard staying there and enjoying this fabulous life.

I have been sooo busy since I left this idealic scene - for two days Mr FH and I helped Daughter No 2 and her husband shift house - boy was  that hard work. I think we started on the hottest day you could imagine but by the afternoon we just worked inside the 'new' house. Mr FH and our son-in-law got called out to help fight a fire in amongst all the mess we had but fortunately that was under control after a short time. The second day I painted the pantry and linen cupboard before we shifted everything in.
Thursday was the day I was waiting for - we were off to Perth for New Year and also back to Tiffanys!
The beautiful ring my husband gave me was a little too small and as it had diamonds all around it could not be altered so I had to get another size. I thought I would have it to show but unfortunately the next size has to be ordered in so I have to wait 2 weeks - so I can't let you have a little peep til then.

We had a lovely new year - catching up with Daughter No 1 and her family and also Son No 1 and his gorgeous girlfriend. We are home again now and getting ready for shearing our sheep (about 4000!) so that will keep us busy this week. Tomorrow I am off to help Daughter No 2 strip wallpaper from her bedroom walls.

Hope you love this sunset photo I took on Boxing Day night..
Until next time,

Suzy
