Fun in Melbourne

We have just returned from a short 5 day holiday to Melbourne, a wonderful city on the east coast of Australia. It has the most beautiful old buildings and a rickety old tram system running through the city streets. We went with four of our friends (one who was celebrating her divorce!!!) and enjoyed lovely weather to take in some sight seeing, shopping, dining out and watching a couple of games of footy. We bought some great clothes at the Factory Direct Outlets and ate and drank far too much!

This is the view from our balcony. That is the football stadium directly across the water.

Melbourne’s famous city trams. These trams continually travel around the main city blocks and it’s just so easy to jump on and off when you want.

My mouth was watering just looking in this shop window. This shop was situated down the cutest little arcade.

Gorgeous flowers at the Queen Victoria Markets. I just love kale – I’ve been too busy this year to plant any!!

This is our table at the footy stadium. We were able to watch the game while we dined or we could wander outside and come back in when we wanted another drink or half time desserts. I could get used to this life!! Thanks to our son-in-law who was able to organise this for us!!

Melbourne is well know for having 4 seasons in one day but as you can see we had wonderful weather. The days were a little cool but without any heavy winds so just perfect for wandering around. On Friday night we were treated to a wonderful fireworks display above the dock and Sunday night nature provided some more fireworks with a thunderstorm.
This weekend was such a lovely time for us to share with our friends.
Tomorrow I am heading off to the city again to join my son, his fiance and Ann (Mother of the Bride) to attend a night of food and drink sampling in preparation for their wedding in March.

Wonderful buildings in Melbourne

Today I want to share with you some wonderful old buildings that I was lucky enough to see on my recent holiday in Melbourne. Believe me they are just stunning and need very few words from me to show their beauty. I hope you enjoy......

I'm joining OutdoorWednesday@ASouthernDaydreamer and also WednesdayGratitude@HeartandHome as I am so grateful these wonderful buildings have been maintained.

Spring is here!!

This is a magnificent tree I saw on my recent trip to Melbourne. As you can see the limbs are really old and twisted. It was in a park setting very close to the centre of the city. I found Melbourne to be a very drab city as the buildings are very old (I do like that tho) but as they have very strict water restrictions in place most of the cars driving around were all covered with a layer of 'greyness' -I don't think that is a word but I think you will get the picture. I have some lovely photos of some beautiful old buildings that I will share with you later.

After wandering the city streets for some time we came across a market which had the most beautiful flowers - I really wanted to buy some but as we were only there for 3 nights I thought it was a bit silly.  It was just great to see the buckets and buckets of vibrant colours lined up. As today is the first day of spring here I am getting my 'spring fix' by looking as these photos.

Happy spring day!!

Yummy cakes to tempt you

Is it possible to gain weight through osmosis??? I am convinced it is. This is a wonderful cake shop I found on my recent holiday in Melbourne and I swear I did not eat one piece of this and I still have gained some (not sure how many cos I haven't looked!) unwanted kilos.  Maybe it had something to do with all the other wonderful food we ate or maybe even the yummy wines we drank......

Lemon meringue pie would have to be one of my favourites - how yummy do these look.
