Spring colours

As we are nearing the end of winter it is time to get out and clean up the garden  little. I have taken two weeks off work as I have had some major dental work happening. I developed a massive infection in my front tooth which required the removal of my tooth. Yes, shock horror, you read that right. Any dental work is a major happening for me but this was just about too much for me to handle. Luckily I have an amazing endodontist who has done a wonderful job at treating me. I now have a fake tooth in the front which I will now wear for three months until the gum has healed. I had lost a large area of bone which we thought might need a bone graft but thankfully we haven’t had to go there…yet!! I knew all along that my teeth would look better in the end but getting to the end was the problem!! I am having an implant done which is costing about $10000.00 so heres hoping it looks great!! Hopefully I will have chance this week to set a lovely table but I will share this pretty one I did last year for Easter. Just love this colour mix!!

We are having the most lovely weather at the moment – warm days but wonderful crisp mornings – don’t forget I am in Australia and we are heading towards winter!!
What better than to set a table, pretty with Easter colours, out in the garden. Usually at this time of the year my garden is very parched and thirsty looking but because we have had such amazing summer rains everything is green. Especially the weeds!!!
Well, I guess you can’t win them all.

Nothing says Easter like pink and yellow!! I have used these colours together at my sister’s gift shop and people are amazed that I have put them together. I think they are just gorgeous.
IMG_2848a
How gorgeous do those colours look with the sun shining on them???
IMG_2851a
My overgrown creeper on the fence behind is such a healthy green against the sherbet colours on the table.
IMG_2856a
Even my faded cushions from my sunroom look great on this old outdoor setting I picked up from the side of the road (much to my son’s disgust!)
IMG_2858a
I have used my pink polka dot flatware (I love that stuff!) and also a white set. Pink napkins I have had for a while but the yellow ones I found thrifting last year.
IMG_2861a
Now you can see what I mean about my overgrown creeper!!! Better than a dead creeper though! I love the way the rust is showing through the paint on the chairs (actually they are really rusty and I wouldn’t sit on them).
IMG_2869a
The flowers are off the bookcase in my familyroom so I just added a few little yellow heads to the arrangement.

More faded cushions but I do love those colours.

Tea for me!!

I have spent most of the day helping Mr FH to wean lambs from their mums. I hate doing this and hearing the lambs calling for their mum is so sad. After we weaned them we walked 640 ewes the 12 kms along the main road from one farm to another. This takes quite some time, as you can imagine. Luckily today we only had one car come along but sometimes it could be up to 20 cars!!! After we finished this I drove our farm ute and loaded it with some wood as we will still be having cold weather for a while yet. Finally, when I had finished that I came home and set a small tray just for me. The house was quite gloomy as it was such a cloudy day so you can see I have the lamp on. This spreads such a lovely light on the tea tray.  I had some gardening books I wanted to have a look through so I used my pretty floral mug and a pansy tray and matching napkin. Just right for tea for me!!

Birthday celebrations

It was my birthday on Saturday! Not a milestone but a very special birthday anyway. My mum had celebrated her birthday two days before mine so my sister arranged for all of the girls in our family to join for a high tea on Saturday afternoon. Those of us from the country travelled to our capital city for the weekend. It was extremely hot on Saturday but the lovely old house where we went was close to the river. We had so much fun. Lots and lots of noise (we are all very bubbly and talk lots!!) and lots of laughter filled the room. The table was set with Old Country Roses china (the holiday version, which I don’t have) and it looked just lovely when we walked in. Such a lovely way to share a birthday.

I am so in love with the beautiful table we sat at…….check out that wonderful patina! If I could have fitted one in my bag I would have brought one home with me!!!!
I had such a wonderful weekend which sadly ended when I received a message from a dear friend whose husband passed away suddenly on Sunday morning. Makes these family days all the more special.

Wet paint!

I had found a few old bottles around the farm and as much as I tried they still would not come clean. On the weekend I decided I  would paint them and distress them a little. Well, the painting got done but not the distressing! I am very impatient and as soon as I had slapped the paint on (yes, I was going for a vintage look!) I wanted to use them on a table, hence then heading ‘Wet paint’. I felt they needed a little something on them so they weren’t quite so plain so I found some of my old earrings from the 70’s and took the backs off and glued them to the bottles before I painted them. As you will see, I had to place the bottles on a white platter to stop the paint from getting on my dining table!!  Ah, the things we do!

I see in one of the photos the gremlins have been and shifted a fork a little! How come I don’t see these things until I look back at the photos?

Blue Willow teacups

Did you ever sit with your Nana and share a cup of tea in a Blue Willow teacup? I know I did and just looking at it brings back many memories.  This week’s table shows that the old Blue Willow is still as lovely today. I have a whole dresser (here) of gorgeous blue and white china. I say I’m not a ‘blue’ person but a whole dresser filled with blue and white china just catches my eye.
I have teamed the old fashioned china with a very modern piece of fabric I have used for a runner. Pink table mats I have had forever team nicely  with the runner. The blue glasses I picked up from the thrift store for $1.50 each.
Once again I have used my pretty polka dot flatware. This is my favourite and going on the comments I have received lots of others love it too!!!

A collection of blue pitchers and a couple of blue and white china balls sit a top a pretty pink cake stand in the centre. The single candlestick was the first gift I received from Son No1 when he started high school and had woodworking classes! I hope this table brings back memories of sipping tea in Blue Willow cups with your nana.
