Daffodil Day

On Friday, 23rd August we celebrated Daffodil Day. This day is very special to me in that it is a major fundraising day for the Cancer Foundation to raise money for research into a cure for cancer. I lost my darling Dad to this terrible disease many years ago and I’m always willing to support any fundraising event for this great cause. Every bunch of daffodils that are sold in the supermarkets help to boost the total of funds raised. This always signals to me that spring really is just around the corner. My little $6 bunch were just so pretty I just had to share them with you.

We also had a wonderful birthday celebration on the weekend. Mr FH celebrated his 60th birthday. We had invited 38 close family and friends to help us celebrate in a private box at the city races. We had the most wonderful day. Guests arrived at midday and were served entree, main course and desserts and we finished at 5.30. Such a great time was had by all. Somehow I completely forgot to take photos of the beautiful food!!!

This is the view from our room. It was the most beautiful day…..the sun was shining and just a gentle breeze. As usual with our family, there is always some sort of drama. Our son-in-law was feeling unwell on Friday night but thought he was ok on Saturday morning but deteriorated as the day went on. Our daughter ended up having to take him to hospital at 10.00pm and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. No wonder he was feeling so unwell.
It is just starting to rain – a great finish to a lovely weekend.

Library Luncheon

On Tuesday I invited librarians from neighbouring schools to come to our school for a networking day. We started with an early coffee and chat then I had arranged for a local self-published bush poet to come and share his poetry with us. He also talked to us about the ups and downs of publishing your own book. Very interesting!!  Why is it that there is always someone ready to take advantage of you?? Thankfully the story ended well.
After morning tea our guest speaker had fun writing poetry with our students. I had prepared a power point presentation of my library displays from over the years and explained to my colleagues just how I had made them. Another librarian had also prepared a presentation which she shared with us all. It was such an inspiring day.
Lunchtime arrived and as my favourite thing to do is set a table I did just that. I received so many wonderful comments from the girls. I had covered books with black and white  paper for a display at the giftshop so they seemed perfect for a library lunch. Everything else I had either at home or at the beach house. It was a very simple lunch with finger food and  I had made individual desserts for everyone. Such a great day!

Spring is here!

Thursday was the first official day of spring. It was a lovely day - warm sun on my back, slight breeze blowing on my face....you can picture it, can't you???  Me out gardening??? No I don't think so. I spent the whole day in the sheep yards with Mr FH weaning our lambs. It satrted off quite pleasant but by the afternoon the ground had been kicked over a bit  a lot so the dust was flying and the lovely breeze had whipped up quite a bit so it was getting 'not so pleasant'!! When we finished I took a photo of myself and truly I had a mono brow and a moustache from the dirt and dust. As I said to my kids - not a pretty sight especially on your Mum!!! Yesterday was a complete turn around - scuddy showers all day to freshen up the crops and garden - just perfect.

This is a bunch of gorgeous tulips I used at our Christmas In July which I will share with you later in the week. I'm joining Pink Saturday with these.

Birthday Flowers

I had a birthday last week and SNo1 and his gorgeous girlfriend gave me these beautiful flowers. They quite often buy flowers for me which I think is just beautiful. The gorgeous perfume bottles were a present from my mum - I think they will look lovely on the bathroom bench at the beach house. This is probably the start of another collection!

Aren't these buds just beautiful....

I was supposed to be starting my photography course tomorrow night but it has been posponed until next Wednesday night so that is very disappointing. I'll just have to keep practicing for another week!

Sweet, Sweet William

Once again we have had a busy
week...I am on school holidays so Mr FH and I went to Perth for a few appointments and also to WORK HARD!!!  We have a unit in Perth where our son and his girlfriend live and in March Perth got hit by a freak storm and three rooms of our unit were flooded!! Finally we had all the insurance sorted so it was time to get the new carpets laid..Yippee!! On Thursday we spent the whole day shifting furniture around from room to room. It was pouring with rain outside (I was worried about flooding again!) so we were unable to put anything outside so it was a matter of keeping in front of the carpet layer and just shifting things from room to room. It was hard work but well worth the effort. We came back to the farm last night and I have spent the day today just catching up. We are meeting our daughter and her husband and baby at our local pub for dinner tonight so that will be nice.

I bought myself this pretty bunch of Sweet William from the vegie store on the way home - the colours are just so lovely.

Hope you all have a great weekend - it is cold and miserable here in Australia so I hope you are all enjoying the nice sunny weather.

PS A few people have asked me about the box of china I found - it was in the old farm house where my husbands parents lived so I guess you could say they are family heirlooms!

Blue Plumbago

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Wishing all the mothers around blogland a wonderful day!!

Yesterday when I was returning from my daily walk I aproached our house from a different direction and could not believe how pretty my garden was from the other side!!!
I have two plumbagos flowering at the moment - one is slightly darker than the other - and they were so beautiful just spilling over the fence.

I just love pink, blue and mauve flowers in my garden. Even though yellow really gives the garden a lift I usually only have a soft buttercup yellow which really looks beautiful with mauves and purples.

This plant is about 6ft high - it looks like a wave of beautiful blue water cascading down.

The weather was just perfect yesterday. With mild temps, a gentle breeze and lots of sunshine it was beautiful gardening weather - such a shame I too many other things I had to do.

I have picked you a basket of flowers to enjoy!

I have a Mother's Day tablescape to show you tomorrow - have a lovely day...

I'm joining Mosaic Monday - come and see the beautiful mosaics.

Just a bunch..

On the weekend I was in Perth so I picked myself up a bunch of flowers - there is nothing like fresh flowers to brighten your day....

The colour was the main drawcard for this bunch...I have never seen anything quite like them. The tag told me they were Celosia Brain!!! Have you ever heard of a pretty pink flower with a name like that!!
The heads were packed with these lovely ruffles 'petals'. They actually looked a bit like velvet.

I love this picture of the flower just as it is opening up. I don't think I have ever seen anything so unusual. I am joining Outdoor Wednesday tomorrow (I am guessing these flowers were grown outdoors!!)

Hot and horrible on the farm!

Yesterday we had one of those terrible hot, windy days on the farm - the days when you are scared to look towards the horizon in case you can see smoke. All the gorgeous spring flowers were looking so sick - it's unbelievable how just one day can make the garden suffer so much. This morning when I woke I could hear tiny drops of rain on the roof - what a change!

I think I've had enough of summer already - give me autumn and spring any day!!
