A day at the gift shop

We have just returned from the beach house where the weather was fabulous…..but I can’t say that to Mr FH as we are desperate for rain on the farm. As well as needing rain we have suddenly hit a cold patch today (guess that’s expected in winter lol). The sun was shining but boy was it cold… frost everywhere this morning at the farm. I have spent part of the day fiddling around in my sister’s gift shop. Life has been busy so I haven’t been there so much lately but today I really enjoyed myself. Lots of new giftware has arrived since I was last there. It is just so hard not to take things home with me all the time.  My sister laughs because I have this addiction to scarves (I have 7 crates full at the farm!!) so I can often be seen walking around in my work uniform with a scarf (not matching!!) draped around my neck to see if it needs to come home with me!!! So far I have resisted today but I’m back there tomorrow so we’ll see what happens.
Here are a few quick snaps of some of the gorgeous giftware she has for sale. Some great cushions too….oranges and browns. Not really my colours but very cute, just the same.

Sorry the pictures aren’t too flash but I took them quickly just as I was finishing up and it was starting to get dark. Hopefully I’ll get some a bit earlier in the day tomorrow. I’m finishing early tomorrow and having a massage after work…how nice will that be!!

New bakers stand

I have been looking at this gorgeous wire plate rack at my sister’s shop for ages. I knew I wanted to put it somewhere in the beach house. My first thought was on the wall in the dining area but I found my fabulous clock which was just right for there. I finally decided to try it in the patio area and I LOVE it!!! First off I gave it a really good scrub as it had been around for a while (a bit like yours truly!!) then I laid it out in  the winter sun to dry.

The pool fence was a perfect drying spot!!
Next I attacked it with some spray paint. I just realised I don’t have photos of this which is probably lucky as I set up a ‘spray booth’ in the garage and started spraying away happily. What I didn’t realise was that I was so carried away with the spraying that I was changing direction and didn’t realise until I finished that I had sprayed the garage floor!!! Great fun scrubbing that late on Sunday afternoon when all I wanted to be doing was fluffing up my new shelf!! Anyway, finally I have it done. Well, nearly,…..I think I can add a little more colour to the top shelf. You will notice in some of the photos I was shifting things around and didn’t put them all back  correctly so I had to take a couple of quick shots this morning.
I think my new display shelf is just gorgeous!

I still need to find just the right things to display in the lower shelf. You can see I have tried a few different bits and pieces from around the house. Most of the cute black and white and red and white china was from Kmart for $2 per piece. What a bargain.

Table for two!!

Well, the world seems to be filled with pink and red at the moment so I thought I would join the Valentine train! Finally, I have found some lovely red and white spotted plates. I love them and I’m sure they will be used over and over. I set up a small table for two and covered it with a white cloth. After setting everything up I thought the table still looked like it needed ‘something’. I finally decided to add a piece of red and white toile fabric to one corner. To me, toile is such a romantic fabric so it fitted in just right. Everything else was found around the farm house as I am now home from holidays. Work tomorrow!!! Not sure how I’ll make it through the whole day without a nanna nap though!

Happy Monday!!

PS I've had a few people enquire where I purchased this gorgeous spotty dinnerware...I bought the dinner plate and salad plate from our main supermarket, Woolworths, here in Australia and the dessert plate (Maxwell & Williams) is part of a set I have had for a while.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

May is the fundraising month in Australia for the Cancer Foundation. This year DNo 1 decided she would have a morning tea to raise some money. She ended up raising over $500 which was a great effort. She raided my cupboards for anything red and white (her home has red accents) and started making plans.

We had the most lovely morning. Please excuse the blurry photos but I think there were 100 small children there (not really!) and it was quite hard to get some photos. This fundraising event is very dear to my heart as I lost my father from cancer 16 years ago. Sadly this terrible disease seems to touch us all.

Fun family buffet

I recently saw a tablescape done by Alycia where she displayed all her fine work on a buffet (or buff – et, as my daughters call it!) and I thought that is one table I really hadn’t done many of so of course that got my mind going. All sorts of ideas came into my mind (as usual) but I ended up setting my buffet in red, black and white. Mainly I think because I had three sets of flatware that would go nicely with the red, black and white china I had.

I have reused my flower pots I painted with blackboard paint for the flatware. I really had everything else except for the black and white check salad plates – they are a recent purchase. Also I may have just bought the black stemmed glasses and yes, I forgot, also the black and white toile napkins but really that is all I purchased!!
