Icy blue and white for Christmas

I can’t believe just how close Christmas is!!!! I have been a little undecided about just what colour I was going to have for my table this year. I am really moving more to the natural look with whites and pinecones and just a softer look in general. Last week I bleached some pinecones and love how they turned out. I mixed a few natural brown ones in as well and then added a few blue balls for contrast. It is just so long since I have been able to fiddle around setting a pretty table and I realise just how much I love it. Hopefully over the next few months of summer here in Australia I will have some fun. This table is very simple….so simple in fact I forgot to add some wine glasses but don’t worry I could soon find them if needed!!  The woven mats I picked up a few years ago in the bargain bin and now I’m wishing I had bought one dozen of them. I just wish my dear friend lived close enough to drop by and join me for lunch!!

Take one old pine tray…….

Do you have something at home that you are dying to get stuck into with some paint to update it a little?? I have been looking at this old orange coloured pine tray for a while with the idea of stencilling numbers onto it but it has taken me about 6 months to complete!! Last weekend was really hot so I cranked up the air conditioner and worked away until it was finished. I am really pleased with it now but I’m trying to decide if I will sand it a little and shabby it up. Not sure yet…

I have an old pine hall table which I am thinking of giving a similar makeover. Maybe I will paint French script letters on that instead. I just hope it doesn’t take another six months to get that finished!!

Traditional Christmas colours

Yesterday I had an exhausting but most enjoyable day. Mr FH was busy working on the farm so I went to my sisters gift shop to do some more Christmas decorating. The nursery, gift shop and coffee shop is closed on Sundays (we did have a few customers come and have a look around in amongst the mayhem!!) so I find it much easier to decorate on those days. I don’t need to keep walkways clear and breakables out of the way all the time….much easier!! Also we don’t need to stop to serve people at the counter either. It was quite a family catch up day too.
My Sister and her husband were both there catching up after a busy week, my other sister who bakes the most delicious cakes for the cafe was there busy baking too!!  I think she made 24 beautiful cakes and tarts ready for the week!!! She is so clever. My Mum also called by to see just what we were all doing and made she we just didn’t chat all day!! Such a nice time.
At the gift shop my sister has a little square area which has always been used to display mats, gardening bits and bobs and also displays of seeds and bulbs. This year we decided to take everything out and transform it into a Christmas display. We are so thrilled with how it worked out. She had an old mantel in the shed so we painted that white and sprayed some ply with chalk paint to use for the fire area. After her husband had mounted this on the wall I set to work. This display is in more traditional colours of red, white and a touch of green. Much different to last week’s display which you can see here. Our gorgeous white and blue Christmas wonderland has nearly all been sold so I’m now planning how I will change that out next week.
I wanted to practice some different fonts on a chalkboard so thought the best way to do that was to make a board for the giftshop. You will see it in the corner. All in all, the display turned out really nice even thought I was very tired when I got home.
Here is the start of the days work…….and also the start of the chalkboard – not pretty, either of them!!

I just love Christmas time in the shops!! I am very lucky because Mr FH is one of the very few males who also enjoys everything about Christmas!
