Winter White Mantel

I thought it was high time to revamp my mantel (well, actually it’s the top of the tv cabinet but I decorate it as I would a mantel!!). I decided I would have it just silver and white but in the end I added a really old planter I had hidden away. It has some pretty blue flowers on it and I felt the whole look needed just a little colour. I already had some of the silver candlesticks up there so I just added a couple more. I ‘borrowed’ the lamp from the guest bedroom and the silver sticks in the jug are leftovers from  our daughters wedding which I sprayed silver long ago!!
I love the light from the lamp on the dull winter days. Actually today has been beautiful…….showers over night and sunshine during the day. Perfect!










The candle sticks were throwing some weird shadows on the walls late this afternoon! I have been to the beach house over the weekend and have been making a few little changes which I will share  when I have finished them next week.

Fun filled Christmas night

Well, I guess it’s better late than never!!! Here we are at the 10th of January and I am still posting Christmas tables – I was going to tell you all this table was for New Years but I realized I had Christmas crackers so I had to come clean!!
Christmas in Australia is always a really hot day so this year I decided our table for Christmas night would be a ‘fun’ table with lots of colour. I had four main colours – gorgeous blue, bright green, hot pink and stunning purple. Not your usual Christmas colours but it is amazing how many colours decorations come in these days!!
We had extended family join us in the evening so we used our empty theatre room (hopefully we will be able to purchase furniture soon LOL!). Please excuse our plastic stacker chairs too!
This is fairly overloaded with photos so beware!!















This fun table certainly set the scene for a happy night!

Christmas in July

Last weekend my family had our Christmas in July. We were running a bit late as it's so hard to co-ordinate everyone but those that could attend did and we all had a great time.

This year we hosted the 'event' at our beach house and I set up the tables in our theatre room (which still has no furniture so came in handy!!) and set them with cream damask cloths and napkins tied with baby pink tulle.

I placed the crystal and glass candle holders on antique crystal cake plates. All the candles were cream and I scattered fake snow all around the table.

I used three tall glass vases (leftover from DNo 1's wedding) and filled them with pink and silver balls. Can you see me in there too? I was quickly trying to take photos before everyone arrived.

Tealights with vanilla candles gave the room a lovely perfume without being too overpowering.

Silver placemats and baby pink menus were set for each guest to enjoy.

I loved using the fake snow. Christmas here in Australia is usually so hot that it's a lovely change to have a cool Christmas!  We had Cream of Chicken Soup with crusty rolls, Roast Turkey, Pork and Chicken with baked potatoes, sweet potato crumble, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, cauliflower au gratin, steamed vegies and fresh greens. This was followed by Traditional Plum Pudding and brandy custard or Sticky Date Pudding with caramel sauce.  That's the hard part - I love all the decorating and organising but get a panicky with the cooking but I delegated a lot! LOL

See no furniture in the room except for the tables. We did have chairs but as they were of the green plastic stacking variety (classy!) we didn't bring them in until the last minute.

A small table was set up in the corner for extra glasses (trestle tables are too narrow to add glassware) and red wine for later.

PS We did serve tea and coffee later but I didn't get a photo of that so I haope I can still be included in the Tuesday Tea Parties!

Decking the halls!!

This past week I have been playing around with candles. I decided earlier in the year that I wanted lots of white, silver or crystal candle holders for my table centre piece. I have a large piece of mirror I am going to sit them on the double the effect.

I have gathered them from all sorts of places ready for the Christmas table. This large based silver one in the middle is one of a pair I received for my 21st birthday - now that's a day or two ago!!! LOL The plain glass set of three (without candles at the moment!) I had purchased a few years ago.

I have two shorter mercury glass candle holders which I bought last Christmas. The small silver one on the left I bought at a thrift store for $1.00. 

 

The pretty little with one with the roses was also from the thrift store ($2.00 for 2!) which I painted white then gave the roses a little touch of silver.

This crystal (glass really) holder was also from the thrift store for $2.00. I had been popping in to the local stores near my beach house every couple of weeks just to see what I could pick up.

This lovely frosted glass holder was $2.00 but had gold bands so after a good scrub I painted the bands silver- now I love it!

A lot of the candles are siting a bit crooked (which really annoys me!!) so I am going to spend some time adjusting them when I place them on the table.

This really tall mercury glass holder in the centre was a new purchase this year - $40.00 which I thought was a good price as it is very tall and very pretty.

I have a pair of these crystal holders (actually they are a type of plastic but you would never guess) which look cute with the silver candles.

Christmas crafts

I've been fiddling.....

Yesterday I managed to get started on some Christmas crafts. I made these gorgeous candles to go on the table for Boxing Day (I already have my Christmas day table sorted - in my head, anyway!!). They were just plain cream pillar candles from the supermarket.

I won't be using this candle holder but it had five spaces and I have five candles so it was just perfect for today. 

I down loaded this free music sheet (from Gail@Can'tStopMakingThings) and printed mine out onto some lovely cream paper (leftover from DNo 1's wedding invitations) and  cut them to size then joined them with double sided tape. I finished them off with a string bow.

I also made this burlap table runner (which I can't remember where I saw this. sorry!). I have lots of black wire baskets to go with this for a lovely French look.

I can't wait to use both of these. I have to take a small gift to a Christmas party so I'm going to make some candles for that.

It's all white..

Today I am feeling much better. SNo 1 is looking ok today after his surgery yesterday so that's enough to make any mother feel better. He hopes to be discharged from hospital tomorrow so heres hoping the surgery was successful. Also my darling little grandson had his first birthday today. It's so hard to believe we have had such wonderful times with him for 12 months now. We spent a couple of hours with him before returning to the farm- he is having a birthday party next Sunday on our Labour Day holiday weekend.

I have quickly decided to join the girls at White Wednesday at Faded Charm with these few photos I took of a display I have on the tv cabinet. When I packed the Christmas decorations away I decided I would like to keep the candles sitting up there for a while so I gathered up a group of white and silver candles. I just love these mercury candle holders....
