Traditional Christmas colours

Yesterday I had an exhausting but most enjoyable day. Mr FH was busy working on the farm so I went to my sisters gift shop to do some more Christmas decorating. The nursery, gift shop and coffee shop is closed on Sundays (we did have a few customers come and have a look around in amongst the mayhem!!) so I find it much easier to decorate on those days. I don’t need to keep walkways clear and breakables out of the way all the time….much easier!! Also we don’t need to stop to serve people at the counter either. It was quite a family catch up day too.
My Sister and her husband were both there catching up after a busy week, my other sister who bakes the most delicious cakes for the cafe was there busy baking too!!  I think she made 24 beautiful cakes and tarts ready for the week!!! She is so clever. My Mum also called by to see just what we were all doing and made she we just didn’t chat all day!! Such a nice time.
At the gift shop my sister has a little square area which has always been used to display mats, gardening bits and bobs and also displays of seeds and bulbs. This year we decided to take everything out and transform it into a Christmas display. We are so thrilled with how it worked out. She had an old mantel in the shed so we painted that white and sprayed some ply with chalk paint to use for the fire area. After her husband had mounted this on the wall I set to work. This display is in more traditional colours of red, white and a touch of green. Much different to last week’s display which you can see here. Our gorgeous white and blue Christmas wonderland has nearly all been sold so I’m now planning how I will change that out next week.
I wanted to practice some different fonts on a chalkboard so thought the best way to do that was to make a board for the giftshop. You will see it in the corner. All in all, the display turned out really nice even thought I was very tired when I got home.
Here is the start of the days work…….and also the start of the chalkboard – not pretty, either of them!!

I just love Christmas time in the shops!! I am very lucky because Mr FH is one of the very few males who also enjoys everything about Christmas!

The Queen of Tizz!

Recently I was working at my sister’s gift shop and a shopper (a lady I knew) called  me  the Queen of Tizz!  How funny is that!? My kids thought it was so me and I have to admit I would spend all days tizzing around if only I could.  Such a shame I (and all of you!!) have to do all the mundane things around the house too! We were unpacking a HUGE amount of Christmas decorations ready to display. This year my sister has really gone in two directions….the classic silver, pinks and greens and also a line of gorgeous brightly coloured tin decorations so that called for two very different tables. The classic was easy..I just gathered up all the gorgeous clear glass containers and filled them all with decorations. They make such a great display just like that. We did have a slight problem though, we had overloaded the tree and it toppled over! I was leaning down nearby and too frightened to lift my head. Luckily we only broke 3 baubles hanging on the tree and no damage to all the gorgeous glassware!
The other table is a very rustic table with natural wreaths, a red burlap cloth, vintage tin truck and rustic Christmas sign. I had Mr FH help me find a branch which was about the same size all along and he kindly (!!) sliced off 9 slices which I took and stencilled them to spell out Christmas. They looked a little bright and new so after I’d finished stencilling I found some nugget and a brush and dirtied them up a little. They still weren’t quite right so I tied some red and gold ribbon (I really wanted tartan but couldn’t find any!) around them and stood them on their side on the table. My sister has had a few customers wanting to buy them!!
Every year I vow I’m not buying any more decorations for Christmas but every year I weaken!! I guess this year will be no different!

Christmas Party

Well, what a wonderful day I have had... we had our annual  Craft Christmas Party which we celebrate with some girls from a nearby town and this year it was our turn to host it. We started early (about 10.30) with coffee then a few champagnes. The visiting girls supplied the nibbles then we provided the wonderful roast turkey, glazed ham and all the trimmings!! The visitors provided the dessert - yummo!!! I was in charge of decorating the table so I loaded up a laundry basket with all things gold and set to work. I added a little red and green just to get in the spirit of things. It really did look nice. We use the cutlery and crockery from our local hall so I didn't have to lug mine in to use so that was rather handy as I had decorations, food, drinks, gifts and craft projects to take with me.

After that finished I went on to our School Graduation Night - it was just wonderful. All our little ones were so nervous before it started but they rose to the occasion (as we knew they would) and it was a super night. Tomorrow I am having a day at home...yippee!
