Big Ben

Today I was walking past a little shop when I spied this beauty inside!! A fabulous big clock!!!! I thought it would be ideal for a little area at the base of my stairs but it was way too big for that so after a bit of fluffy around with Mr FH holding the clock up  against the wall in various locations I decided to hang it on the wall in our dining area. When we first bought the beach house (2 1/2 yrs ago) I framed these gorgeous prints from a calendar and hung them there as we had too many other things that we needed to buy before we could get to the tizzy bits!! I really liked them so they remained until today!  I decided they would move to the base of the stairs but in moving them I smashed the glass in one so I need to have that replaced before I can show you!
This is what the dining room wall looked like…

Not sure that Mr FH was that crazy about it until our son and his fiancĂ© came to stay and they loved it so I think that convinced him it was ok.  You can still see the hangers from the prints still on the wall near the clock…I was a bit excited about photographing my new favourite thing!!! I have since removed them and touched up the paint!

This gorgeous new lamp was a gift from a friend at Christmas. Just perfect!
This is our last week at the beach house. It’s going to be hard to go home to the farm after 6 weeks. We will still spend most weekends here for the rest of the summer though. Back to work next Tuesday!

A little French cafe

I’ve been having fun for the last 3 days…. working at my sister’s gift shop. She has gone to Melbourne with her husband buying new giftware and I’ve been in charge of their gift shop, nursery and coffee shop. Friday was one of their busiest days ever…. I was exhausted!! I don’t need to work in the cafe too much (which I am glad about!) but I did need to keep the gift shop and nursery running while the others were busy. I have been making new displays and today I’m showing you the little ‘French Cafe’ I set up in the window. I gathered up anything that ‘looked French’. You know, black wrought iron, Eiffel Towers, wire cloches and anything else I could find to bring the display together.
As you can see, we had just had a lovely shower of rain. We have had the driest July for many, many years so today’s rain was very welcome.
I have one more day to work (Thursday) to finish off and find homes for all those little things that don’t seem to belong! There always seen to be lots of those left at the end of the day!

I’m off to my ‘real job’ at school tomorrow and Wednesday so I’m hoping for a couple of more relaxing days!!

THE TIMES ARE A CHANGING....

I have some exciting news to share with you.......

No, I am not off a romantic holiday to Paris with Mr FH (but I would love to visit Paris oneday...). Mr FH and I have bought a new house!! It is near the beach about 3 hours drive from the farm. We are not leaving the farm just yet (maybe in a few years) but decided we would try to spend part of the week at the farm house and part at our beach house.

The new house is very large and very modern - totally different to the farm house! As you can imagine most of my shabby chic decor will not fit in the new house so I have decided I'm going to decorate it in a French flavour - hence the Eiffel Tower cushions and wirework. This is going to be such a challenge to me as my usual colours are very much pink and green.

I'm hoping you will join me in my decorating journey which I will include here (along with photos from the farm house) and help me when I get stuck!! I have purchased the above cushions to go on my couch but unfortunately that will not be ready for about 6 weeks - I don't know how I can wait that long.

So, look out everyone - Paris here I come!

Footnote: For everyone who asked about my pretty Plumbago post it's proper name is Plumbago Capensis - it is very hardy, frost and drought resistant - in fact you just can't kill it. It does tend to sucker up so it needs to be where there is plenty of room. If I can grow it, anyone can!!
