Spring colours

As we are nearing the end of winter it is time to get out and clean up the garden  little. I have taken two weeks off work as I have had some major dental work happening. I developed a massive infection in my front tooth which required the removal of my tooth. Yes, shock horror, you read that right. Any dental work is a major happening for me but this was just about too much for me to handle. Luckily I have an amazing endodontist who has done a wonderful job at treating me. I now have a fake tooth in the front which I will now wear for three months until the gum has healed. I had lost a large area of bone which we thought might need a bone graft but thankfully we haven’t had to go there…yet!! I knew all along that my teeth would look better in the end but getting to the end was the problem!! I am having an implant done which is costing about $10000.00 so heres hoping it looks great!! Hopefully I will have chance this week to set a lovely table but I will share this pretty one I did last year for Easter. Just love this colour mix!!

We are having the most lovely weather at the moment – warm days but wonderful crisp mornings – don’t forget I am in Australia and we are heading towards winter!!
What better than to set a table, pretty with Easter colours, out in the garden. Usually at this time of the year my garden is very parched and thirsty looking but because we have had such amazing summer rains everything is green. Especially the weeds!!!
Well, I guess you can’t win them all.

Nothing says Easter like pink and yellow!! I have used these colours together at my sister’s gift shop and people are amazed that I have put them together. I think they are just gorgeous.

How gorgeous do those colours look with the sun shining on them???

My overgrown creeper on the fence behind is such a healthy green against the sherbet colours on the table.

Even my faded cushions from my sunroom look great on this old outdoor setting I picked up from the side of the road (much to my son’s disgust!)

I have used my pink polka dot flatware (I love that stuff!) and also a white set. Pink napkins I have had for a while but the yellow ones I found thrifting last year.

Now you can see what I mean about my overgrown creeper!!! Better than a dead creeper though! I love the way the rust is showing through the paint on the chairs (actually they are really rusty and I wouldn’t sit on them).

The flowers are off the bookcase in my familyroom so I just added a few little yellow heads to the arrangement.

More faded cushions but I do love those colours.

Fluffing and cleaning

I had the day at home today. Don’t you love that??? I do…I don’t have many days to just fiddle around and change a few things. First up though was some serious cleaning. You know….bathroom, toilet and laundry rooms. Once they were finished I was able to set some pretty bits and pieces on an old cupboard I have in my sunroom. I find living between two houses really is a little difficult finding time to do all the fun things in the house.

I’m in a bit of shock tonight. My brother-in-law has been burnt lighting the fire in their home tonight. He has nasty hand, arm and face burns and there has been some damage to their home. It really just tells us all to be so careful doing the everyday things. He might need to be transferred to the large burns unit in the city in the morning so we are all keeping our fingers crossed he will be ok.
Tomorrow I am back at work then off to the city for a dental appointment, a game of football (not me!! hah), and some special time with our grandies. I can’t wait.

Banana Cake

Today I  made this yummy, yummy banana cake!! I sometimes  make banana muffins or banana cake when I have bananas that have passed their peak. Mr FH is not that fond of muffins so I made this banana and pecan cake. I made it in a spring tin and drizzled icing over it while it was still a little warm then added more pecans. I usually make it in a loaf tin and it always seems to rise up in the centre so the ring tin certainly solved that problem. I quickly set a small morning tea tray ready for a visit from some friends. I used the cutest paper napkins with shoes on (very me!!) and plain white china. Very simple, very quick and very enjoyable!!

Moving into Ikea!

I think I might move  house…….I have found a ‘little house’ which is just me. Even my daughter thought so. After days of shifting furniture, scrubbing and painting I was really ready for a little retail therapy so DNo 1 and I decided to have a look at Ikea on Thursday morning. Lunch was not really very exciting but there were so many inspirational displays that made up for it. This little area was just made for me, I am sure. I think you will agree it’s very cute.

I just love this mix of taupe, pink and white.  I could live in a house with just those colours!!  Our beachhouse is not a house that could be comfortable with that colour palette. Isn’t it funny how some things just don’t go. It’s ok though, I’ll just go to Ikea to get my fix!! My two beautiful daughters had organised a surprise for me on Thursday afternoon and had booked me in to have a full body massage. It was wonderful….we had the first real rain for months and it was so relaxing listening to that while I had my massage. What a wonderful way to recharge my batteries!

Gorgeous Ikea plates

As soon as I saw the gorgeous table set with doilies a couple of weeks ago I knew I had to try it. (Please if anyone knows who did this first just let me know and I will add that to my post). I have a lot of doilies from my mum, my MIL and my grandmother so I gathered up all the white ones I could find and set them out. I had bought these lovely pink and green plates (Ikea) a while back when I was ‘just looking’ and knew they would be lovely with the centrepiece. I decided the plates were so fine that I wanted to pair them with silver and white and nothing else. I tried many different napkins but they all looked too bulky (white sheer ones would have been perfect but I didn’t have any!!) so I ended up using paper napkins. Mind you, I did have to clean a bit of silver before I could start the table! Most of the crystal is vintage too, from various family members and the lovely candelabra was a gift from DNo 2.

I thought it would be great to serve dessert in the crystal glasses – just perfect to a lovely springtime lunch.

PS. Marlis@CreativeJourney did a table similar to this a couple of weeks ago but she found it on Pinterest.
