Tattered Old Teapot

I have quite a collection of old enamel ware - kitchenware used in many of the old Australian farm house.

On this pot stand in the corner of my kitchen I have a couple of old saucepans, a little milk pail on the top and two cute teapots.

I certainly wouldn't like to drink a cup of tea from these!  They do however, make wonderful vases for bunches of pretty daisies!

This teapot with the pretty pattern on is my favourite. It is not nearly as common as the one above it but I still don't think it is very valuable.  I puchased this at a farm clearing sale many years ago. Sorry about the spooky photo above - it looks like halloween is coming to Australia!! lol 

This poor old teapot would certainly have a tale or two to tell. The pretty green and cream teacup and saucer is a perfect match!! 

Like all of us, it has a few dings in it to show it has been around for a while!!

Master bedroom at the beach house

I have been having so much fun decorating our beach house - it is just so different to the farm house that it really has been a challenge. Today I am going to share the master bedroom with you. I love this room - it is really big and we have purchased a wonderful sleigh bed, bedside cupboards and a tallboy to match.

As you can see from the light coming in at the left the window and door to the balcony are on this side - we have ocean views when lying in bed!! This is pure luxury to me who at the moment is looking at dry & dusty paddocks

When we had our furniture delivered I was really stumped with what to put above the bed. There really wasn't enough room for a print with the three little windows above but I just wanted something.

 

I was flicking through a magazine and I came across the wonderful ad from Wallwords in the USA. I couldn't help myself when I saw the above quote - it was just what I wanted. Thank goodness for the internet as I was able to order it straight away and I received it here at the farm house in no time at all. It is just perfect for that little space.

I have gone with neutral tonings for this room as it has a feature wall behind the bed which I really liked.

I am now on the look out for all the little touches I need to make it feel like my home - you know what I mean, photo frames, things to put on the bedside tables and just those finishing touches.

Wonderful pink flowers

This week I received this beautiful flower arrangement - it was from my son's girlfriend. After much encouragement from us (mainly our son!) she had passed her driver's licence. She is 25 but as she lived in the city had no real need to drive - something us country people can't understand as we are really grounded if we don't drive.

Once she had passed her test we lent her our old car (the car I drive to work) as she was saving to buy her own. That day has come after 6 months of saving so in appreciation she sent me these flowers and Mr FH  received chocolates and nuts.

As you can see she knows me well when she ordered pink flowers!! They were just too pretty! I decided this week's table needed to include the flowers so the obvious choice would be a 'shabby' inspired table.

White and silver with a touch of pink - so gorgeous. As you can see I have used simple salt and pepper shakers (you can read the funny story about them here) and plain glassware.

 



Simple candlesticks and white candles are classic.

I raided my supply of pink floral plates and added one as a salad plate.

Aren't those beautiful dark green leaves so pretty against all the other soft colours.

My Old Country Roses china bowls from my collection (have a look at that here) finished off the table nicely.

Salt Lakes in Australia

Last Friday Mr FH and I decided to take a drive. We had heard that the farmers east of us were far worse off than us with the drought so we thought we'd take a look.  The town is surround by salt lakes which at this time of the year are usually filled with water.

As you can see there isn't much water this year. Some of the crops were ruined but there were others which were still hanging on and quite good -ours are about in the middle of that!!

This really shows the harsh Australian landscape at it's best. By the end of summer the wind will have blown all this precious soil away. We ended up driving over 200km!

Tomorrow I'm working for my sister in her gift shop -that will be a fun day as she has had some Christmas stock arrive.

Washing Day at the farm house

We are having such beautiful weather here at the farm house. Yesterday I walked outside and saw Mr FH's work clothes drying on the clothes line. When I came to live here 33 years ago I had this typical Aussie farm house clothes line and I hated it but over the years I realise it is just part of the Aussie farm life. It is a strong wire tied between two trees - nothing special but it really is the best line for drying clothes. The slightest breeze just drifts through the clothes and they are dry in no time.

So my clothes line has stayed and will continue to remain there until I leave the farm.

Wicker Furniture

Wow, I can't believe it's Tuesday already!! I must be getting old as I think that every week. I have just been down to my beach house for the weekend and the weather was perfect!! Not so good for the farmers though but I did enjoy the warm sun on the weekend.

This week I have set up a little table in our oat crop - as you can see from these photos the crop is only about 5in high when at this time of the season it should be about 3ft high!! Such a shame- there is going to be some very sad stories from many farmers this year but we will be ok. We have our wonderful healthy family so really we can deal with every thing else.



























This is a little wicker table and chairs off my front porch which you can see here.

This is an old quilt I made many years ago out of a pretty panel but I really like the colours in it.

My cute little bird house matched in with the red, yellow and green tonings.

What a gorgeous sunny morning for a cuppa and a cup cake.

This beautiful green and white cup was the start of this week's table - I received it many years ago (about 16 actually) after my dear old dad died. He sadly died from cancer and here in Australia we have Daffodil Day and The Biggest Morning Tea which are fundraisers for the Cancer Foundation.  

I decided to hold a luncheon for 20 friends who all paid me $20 to attend so I donated the $400 to the Cancer Council in memory of my dad. In appreciation the Council sent me this lovely little cup and saucer.

Cup cakes in red and white spotted paper really finished off the setting!!

How cute is this cushion cover - it really is just perfect for a table setting out in the paddock in Australia.
