Putting a spring in my step!

Spring is well and truly in the air here today. I love spring but I hate the hot drying winds that seem to start once we hit October and they started yesterday. Thankfully we had some rain last week for our crops. I thought the dresser in the kitchen needed to have a much lighter look so I played around with some pretty fresh green which I added to the white that was already there. A much lighter and fresher look for the warm days ahead.
This is what it looked like for winter….

And here is the new look!! I just love that gorgeous polka dot china…it comes in many different colours. Maybe I ‘need’ to pick some up in the after Christmas sales (how scary is that!!).

The soft white balls are off a shrub in the bush near our home. They were naturally just a natural brown colour so I lightly spray painted them white to soften them up a little.
Even though this isn’t really a tablescape I’m planning on joining lots of weekly parties (hope the tablescape police don’t get me!!)
I’m off to redecorate my sister’s gift shop tomorrow….should be good fun with all the new stock arriving.

Update on the patio

Mr FH and I had a couple of nights at the beach house on the weekend. Mind you, I needed it after a trip to the endodontist on Friday! My worst fear in the world is going to the dentist and it looks like I’m in for some extensive treatment on a tooth over the next 6 months!!! Not something I’m looking forward to but while we were there we started our ‘after winter, get ready for summer clean’. You know what it’s like – cobwebs and dry leaves everywhere but it’s amazing how much better it looks in just a short while.
During the winter months I had brought home a mat I had outside (which was very dull and boring) and decided to attack it with a paint brush! I am just so pleased with the results! Talk about a metamorphosis.

The ‘before’ picture!!
IMG_5012a
Here it is looking very plain and unloved. This is a cushion off the outdoor lounge I was using for inspiration.
IMG_5014a
I spent ages taping stripes on the mat. Actually that was quite easy as the mat already had some very fine lines on it. I used an old toothbrush to paint with to start with then it was really trial and error. Most of the paints were bits I mixed from old tins, craft paint and some school paint. The red was the only one I needed to buy.
IMG_5052a
Now this is starting to get a little exciting!!! Lovely straight lines. Mind you, they weren’t all like this. I did have to paint a few ‘extras’ in just to straighten things up a little.
IMG_5127a
What a difference!!! After I finished painting I sealed the whole mat to make sure my hard work didn’t all wash away in the first shower of rain!
IMG_5128a
Even Mr FH commented it was a perfect match! Most of the time he never notices anything I do!
IMG_5131a
Ready for summer! I just need to clean some windows and spray around to get rid of spiders and sit back and enjoy!

PS. You might notice a little frog on the table…I hate frogs but my little grandsons just love this little fellow left by the previous owners!

I’m a copy-cat!

IMG_1182

I fell in love with this gorgeous tray that Sherry has casually put together. Everything about it was just so lovely so I decided to copy it for Debbiedoos Copy Cat Challenge. Even though this is not a magazine copy I’m sure I will be able join in the fun.

As you can see I didn’t have any orange berry bush here at the farmhouse but I did have some orange nasturtium.

Blue Willow teacups

Did you ever sit with your Nana and share a cup of tea in a Blue Willow teacup? I know I did and just looking at it brings back many memories.  This week’s table shows that the old Blue Willow is still as lovely today. I have a whole dresser (here) of gorgeous blue and white china. I say I’m not a ‘blue’ person but a whole dresser filled with blue and white china just catches my eye.
I have teamed the old fashioned china with a very modern piece of fabric I have used for a runner. Pink table mats I have had forever team nicely  with the runner. The blue glasses I picked up from the thrift store for $1.50 each.
Once again I have used my pretty polka dot flatware. This is my favourite and going on the comments I have received lots of others love it too!!!

A collection of blue pitchers and a couple of blue and white china balls sit a top a pretty pink cake stand in the centre. The single candlestick was the first gift I received from Son No1 when he started high school and had woodworking classes! I hope this table brings back memories of sipping tea in Blue Willow cups with your nana.

Weekend away!

I’ve just had the most wonderful weekend. My oldest sister turned 60 and we had a weekend of celebration!! We travelled to a gorgeous town on the south coast which is a famous tourist/wine growing area. Our whole family joined in for the weekend.
Dunsborough
This is what we were expecting but……..unfortunately a cold front hit the coast and we had very rough weather. The first night we had terrible winds and heavy rain. We had 20 adults and 8 kids and had 3 houses – one for each family.
IMG_5091a
This was our house we shared with our three kids and their husbands/partner and 4 grandies. As our house was the biggest we all had dinner at our house. I notice the chairs on the deck have taken a tumble in the night.
IMG_5092a
This is one of my sister’s home for the weekend.
IMG_5093a
And this is where my other sister and her family stayed.
We had a fabulous time…lots of eating, drinking and being merry. We actually had our Xmas in July (yes, in September!) on Friday night which was a lot of fun.

New tea towels!!

I have new tea towels!!!  Yes, I know, there’s nothing earth shattering about that.  But, you just wait until you see them. They are the cutest tea towels I have every owned. If fact they were so cute I couldn’t stand to use them and get them all horrible so I decided before that happened I would set a quick little table-for-two with them. Just too cute!
